ABOUT BIANCA

WHO AM I?

I’m Bianca, and I’m here to help your story shine. I have always loved to read; when I was a child, I used to secretly read after bed time, pretending to be asleep when my parents checked in on me. And then, of course, quietly picking the book up as soon as they’d gone to bed.

An adult now, I still love getting lost in stories, and I also love helping others write the best story they can. If you entrust your story to me, I will use my editing skills to help you make it into the story you want it to be. I will always make sure to guard your own voice and writing style.

As to those skills: before becoming an editor, I worked as a PhD candidate in philosophy at the University of Groningen. My bachelor and master degrees in philosophy, as well as my career as a PhD candidate, were heavily focused on writing. I’ve written a lot of papers in my student days, and am currently working on finishing my PhD dissertation. I was even lucky enough to have one of my papers published in a high-ranking journal in my area of research.

That, however is not enough to call oneself a professional editor. Which is why I am currently training with the CIEP, the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. You can read more about my qualifications and training as an editor below.

I was raised bilingually to speak both English and Dutch. I also read some Latin, Greek, German and French. If your book contains quotes or passages in any of these languages, I will be able to edit those, too.

On a more personal note: I live in Groningen, The Netherlands, with my partner, a dog and three cats. My non-work time is mostly spent reading, walking my dog, cooking/baking (and eating!), and playing DnD, Dominion, or other games. I recently took up indoor climbing, which is lots of fun (and slightly terrifying every now and then).

A PROFESSIONAL EDITOR

I am currently an Intermediate Member of the CIEP and I vow to uphold their Code of Practice. The CIEP has different membership grades. I’m currently an Intermediate Member because I started as a professional editor only last year. I keep a record of my training and work experience, which I can use to request an upgrade to the next grade. Because such applications have to be evaluated by the Admissions Panel anonymously, I cannot say anything here about how close I am to my next upgrade. If you’d really like to know more details, please contact me privately.

Below you find an overview of the qualifications which contribute to my editing skills. You can see which degrees I have completed at university, which languages I can read, and – most importantly – which editing courses I have completed.
